Album Review : Big Nothing - Dog Hours

Musician : Big Nothing
Album : Dog Hours
Date Release : February 18th 2022
Publisher : Lame-O Records

Nah... Cant believe that I got myself sitting down for an update of this rusty webzine and maybe this time I would be like more chilling down and so goddamn much chiller than ever before. Yea you know life in the 30's gets me so much responsibility and yes paying up the bills is a crucial thang to do.
Its been a paragraph for me telling my own story (Just like the old day huh?! No significant change lol). So anyway we have Big Nothing's new full length on the story, a favorite band filled up with favorite people on earth. If you kinda follow up bands like Spraynard, Crybaby, or Casual, maybe Big Nothing's member faces wouldn't be a stranger for you.I remember when they put up their first EP on Asian Man Records, I was like 'Oh okay this is kinda Pat Graham with a more indiepunk vibe' and later on they put out the first full length on Salinas Records, 'Chris', which could be categorized a more Replacement vibe than their previous stuff. But all those stuff was nice I might say. Its kinda magical to know how the band has always have a good songs to write.
It was a morning right where I was wearing my shoes on to work and checking whats on my mailbox. Yea I received a Lame-O newsletter mentioning that the label was going to put out Big Nothing's new full length. It was a quite surprising moment to know that the band suddenly put out something cause all I know that band's last tour was cancelled for many dates due to Covid outbreak. It was monumental for the band I guess like how come you could avoid a tour offer with many great bands like Red City Radio and Bouncing Souls. And yes this outbreak might be a thing that hit the band so much and it is emotional.
So does the record, 'Dog Hours' is a much different thing than the those previous two records they produced. Pat doesnt sing here which is kinda surprising to me. And the record is like 100% American indierock jam. Yes I feel so much popish element of Replacements that is blended with Tom Petty's pop songwriting sensibility. For the last 7 days its been my daily jam for going to work and I'd like to play chill tunes on my way to work haha.
By retrieving from its liner notes saying that the band has started writing its song since the pandemic begins and yes they seem putting the things outside the boundaries they created before. And don't get me wrong, the band has done it correctly and resulting a good record that is worth to check.
Lame-O put out the records and they've been put out so much indierock tunes in few years back and it is a common thing if you know the label was so much punk-ish plus emo-ish if you look out back to where the label have a catalogue back then. The record itself just done its the production phase which it is way later than the official date release of the album itself. Yea its been pain in the ass for any underground label and musician producing vinyl records nowadays cause major label has put out their domination toward the vinyl pressing plant :( Buuuttt it is available on many digital platforms as well.
