Well you know I gotta say that this review is the first one for Mom Jeans. To be honest, my first impression for Mom Jeans is not as 'huge' as everyone is cause I thought that the first full length were like a mediocre twinkle tunes and you know I still kinda hooked up with some twinkle acts like Algernon Cadwallader or Snowing as by comparing with those two I dont know their previous tune just mediocre as I still listen to it today. And you know I wont put up any bad stuff to review and criticize it. Its just not my kinda thing for this webzine and I know its weird somehow but lets just keep it that way lol.Since I dont got hooked on their previous stuffs so I dont give my attention about the hype of this album and Spotify seems just kind enough to recommend me to 'Sweet Tooth'. You know living in the 30's and having a boy by your side means lesser time for music digging. Cant lie to it so now I'm relying my music radar on my social media account and spotify recommendation and I feel shitty about it to be honest lol. So 'Sweet Tooth' is a different tunes if you would compare than those 2 previous Mom Jeans' works. The album sounds much more indierock vibe than ever and that what makes me get into this stuff is that they could present more of their songwriting qualities on 'Sweet Tooth' and seems like the boys have been through sweet sliding changes musically. Some songs emphasize a synth based sound and yes its kinda remind me of the reminiscing late 90's get up kids emo vibe and less twinkle riffs for sure.
Anyway this record probably has kinda turned my sight about the fifth wave bands. Let say records like Retirement Party's 'Runaway Dog', Origami Angel's 'Gami Gang', or awakebutstillinbed's 'Stay Who You Are', and this record as well, has proved its movement qualities toward the sound. Well you know its kinda weird the hype for fifth is there but I didnt enjoy it back then or probably I'm just a late party crasher lol. Well at least when the music is good, its all good and you shouldnt lie to it aight!
Though some of their close pals has left Counter Intuitive for moving into further path music career, Mom Jeans still stick into their grassroot by putting up this record into 'the place' where they belong. Well to my note, this stuff is also another milestone for the label. I mean I do have some favorite stuffs that the label put out though CIR is not one of my 'subscription' for my music radar.
The full length is available on many colorful vinyl variants and also has been available digitally everywhere. Anyway the band will embark on tour this April across 21 North US tour with bands like Story So Far, Joyce Manor, and Microwave. What a waking world!
