Special View : Jirapah, The Singing Giraffe

Jirapah

Honestly, the first time I know about Jirapah is when the owner of Tsefula/Tsefuelha Records, Ababil Ashari, introduced me to his upcoming roster. And then "Alexander" was released with one bonus track included. The result has produced good critics among the listeners and also it became a good buzz for Jirapah to be heard at Indonesian scene.
The band itself is actually started by Ken Jenie and Mar Galo as the two lived at New York City and have been diging the music scene there. Musically it is hard to define where Jirapah could into, but this sound diversity I think has put Jirapah itself into the advantage point.
With 5 E.P. released, Jirapah now is still continuing the musical journaey and performing for local gigs with some friends' assitance, such as Januar and Yudhis of Vague on drum and guitar, and Nico Ghozali on bass. And if you guys haven't digged them yet or about to listen to their tunes, here we have kinda recap for their albums that has been released.

Thank You Max E.P.
The debut E.P. which could be said that this E.P. stated what Jirapah gonna sound like in the future. Good guitar melody and vocal harmony has enriched this album into a must listening one. "Hazy Sunday" track is really recommended.

Digital 7" Vol.01
This one is the first volume of the digital 7" series to come. Wrapped up by the gloomy intro of "Snake Kills Child Part 2" track, this is also a mark for band's diverging sound. And then the tracks "Summer" and "Ratapan Sang Bayi (Lilis Suryani Cover)" has blended a very good pop vibe enriching the musical taste for the album.

Digital 7" Vol.02
With different taste musically, I think this E.P. has stated Jirapah's best song writing and composing moment. With the different drum beat and guitar chord exploration, Jirapah has aesthetically put this E.P. into the first position.

Alexander Single
Probably its a good choice for picking Alexander as a good buzzmaker to be known and heard by the local scene. Good vocal melody and precise guitar sound has made it works!

Digital 7" Vol.03
Probably this is the most raw E.P. ever made by the band. The use of upbeat tempo and garage guitar sound has put the album into the different classification of song composing. I guess here's another different side of Jirapah.

Digital 7" Vol.04
Unlike the previous one, this E.P. shows a chiller side of Jirapah. And probably this album has won every hearts aestheticly and trust me this E.P. is one of the very very good chill tunes.
