My God so bump to know that I'm writing this in the day where Kim passed away and in fact this is coincidence I want you all to know! Its still unbelievable that Kim has to passed this sooner since I still expect some releases upon the reunited Muffs. I would let this review becoming an orbituary to the legend and yes this is a great excuse.
Kim Shattuck who has been known for fronted a legendary pop punk band called The Muffs and she joined The Pixies on 2013 as well playing bass guitar. Well to date Kim has been known in worldwide by joining force with NOFX by doing a guest vocal on Lori Meyers, yes she has that authentical hateful yet powerful screaming voices.
But to me, Kim has put a certain place for any female on pop punk scene where as everyone knows that pop punk scene much identified as a music singing about 'booze, boobs, and fast food' and Kim with her Muffs has kicked out the fuckin scene prooving that female has a place on pop punk scene rather than just being an object. And that's punk as fukk to me.
OK moving on to The Coolies itself, I personally knowing this great side project is via a pop punk massage board post and totally suprise to know that Kim has just done another musical project. I dont care if some might says that this musical project has no differences comparing to Muffs but this is what Kim on the way to be. And I like the way it used to be though as I can say that Coolies is much more dowop than Muffs and Kim does sing in much melodies and harmonies (Well comparing to Muffs itself where she has some parts doing that screaming stuffs). As the lyrics is still what Kim as used to be as you can hear the kickin first track to jam named 'Uh Oh!' which can be clearly described as a pop punk signature crush song and yes I love this line of lyric 'You're hilarious'. Fun fact about The Coolies is that Melanie Vemmen which being known as she's Kim's bandmate on The Pandoras (Kim's band before Muffs) joined the force.
Well this is sad to say that Muffs is going to put out the last album ever on Oct as news has floated on the air and this EP is the first and last one to have from The Coolies. I'm so fucking sad! Stream or buys this one on much digital platforms like spotify, itunes, deezer, bandcamp, etc, cause the physical releases has gone out of number.
